About the Author

Marianne is an avid tea drinker and lover of the sea. She grew up in New Jersey ice skating on brooks, exploring the wildlife in her neighborhood, and roaming the ocean beaches at the Jersey shore with her other six siblings. There was never a dull moment! She has spent most of her adult life living in Massachusetts, where she attended college, and now calls sunny Coronado CA, her home, with her partner, Keith.

Marianne has been a strong advocate for children’s diversity and literacy since her days as a special education teacher in the Boston suburbs, her years as a mom raising three children and a Mimi to her grandchildren. She has also helped countless families find the perfect place to call home as a Realtor. She volunteers with local coastal advocacy environmental groups and helps young readers struggling to make connections with words in her local public school system.

She celebrates writing about nature, science, history, people, and the wonders of the world around us with a passion to spark curiosity, imagination, and creativity in young readers through her stories. Marianne writes fiction/nonfiction books with STEM themes crossing multiple disciplines, adding a sea of facts, and maybe even making children laugh from time to time.

Marianne is the award-winning children’s author of the picture book Taking Turns in both English/Spanish, illustrated by Gail Nelson,  self-published, 2020. It hit the number one Best Seller list on Amazon, received many Five Starred reviews, and earned a CIPA EVVY Award for independent publishers and authors, 2021.

Her second and debut book, traditionally published with Islandport Press, 2027, THE LAST LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER, will be illustrated by Ann Curch Gagliano. This lyrical nonfiction picture book biography is about Sally Snowman and her personal journey to overcome her learning disabilities and become the (first female) and last lighthouse keeper in the U.S. Back matter includes the history of Boston Light, the first lighthouse in America.

Marianne earned her B.S.Ed. in both Elementary and Special Education from Fitchburg State University and her Certificate in Writing For Children at UCSD.

When Marianne is not writing books for children, you can find her reading stories to her granddaughter on FaceTime or traveling to discover new faraway places.
